Where You Will Dive in the Azores

Azores diving centres around offshore seamounts and volcanic formations that rise steeply from depths of over 1,000 metres, concentrating pelagic life in predictable areas.

Dives are typically conducted in blue water, often using reference lines or natural features to maintain position. Comfort in open-ocean conditions and good situational awareness are essential.

Located off Santa Maria, Ambrósio is widely regarded as one of the best pelagic dive sites in Europe. The seamount is famous for large, curious schools of mobula rays that circle divers suspended at depth, often accompanied by amberjacks and barracuda.

An active submarine volcano rising to within 12 metres of the surface. Divers descend into the crater itself, where hydrothermal vents release streams of gas bubbles, creating a unique volcanic diving environment alongside rays, turtles, and schooling fish.

Please note: This dive site is rarely dived, as it is dependent on many factors.

When to Dive the Azores Islands, Portugal

The Azores diving season is shaped by Atlantic conditions and the arrival of migrating species.

July to September
This is the peak season. Water temperatures reach 22–24°C, visibility is at its best, and mobula ray aggregations are most reliable. Whale shark sightings are most likely during this period.
June and October
Shoulder months offer fewer visitors and slightly cooler water. Conditions can be more variable, but resident pelagic life remains present and offshore sites are still accessible.

What is included in the liveaboard price?

Accommodation, meals, snacks, soft drinks, beer, wine, and diving insurance are included.

Can I bring hard-shell luggage?

No. Please bring soft-sided bags only due to limited storage space onboard.

How many dives will we do?

Typically 2 dives per day, occasionally 3. The final day allows for safe no-fly time.

Is smoking allowed onboard?

Smoking is restricted to designated outdoor areas.
