The desert gardens were created as a small wildlife paradise as a guide through Egyptian wild flora, where almost every plant has been used in traditional medicine & has economic value supporting the life of the local nomads inhabiting the Egyptian deserts.
The garden was created in 2017 in cooperation with Dr. Irina Springuel, former professor at the Aswan University, who resides most of the year at Wadi Sabarah. She will be happy to guide you through more than 2000 plants with over 40 local species.
Yoga, meditation and wellness sessions at Wadi Sabarah can be held at several unforgettable locations on-site, coupled with our quiet policy (no constant loud music or animation teams), we’re a perfect destination for wellness seekers.
A 2 minute walk on the beach will take you to ‘The Oasis Shala’, a beautiful secluded indoor/outdoor space with stone walls, facing the sea directly and can hold up to 20 yogis at a time. We can also help you plan a sunrise or sunset practice in the desert as part of a safari excursion right in our backyard in the Eastern Desert.
Adventure
Snorkelling
The beach is housed with an ancient fossilized reef, once a bay, called in Arabic a ‘Marsa’. Today our Wadi houses a fringe reef where ‘The Deck Pier’ allows you access to the deep blue waters of the Red Sea and our pristine reef.
Desert Botanical Tour
About 2000 plants of over 30 desert species are growing in our wadi bed. Irina’s gardens will guide you through Egypt’s wild flora where almost every plant has economic value supporting the life of the local nomads inhabiting the Egyptian deserts.

Scuba Dive with Emperor Divers
The Dive Centre at Wadi Sabarah Lodge commenced operations in October 2023 and is overseen by the esteemed Emperor Divers team, boasting over two decades of experience in the southern regions and unparalleled access to extensive coastlines. Crafted by Sonia Goggel, the diving program is tailored and complemented by ecological presentations, emphasizing a commitment to intimate dive groups for an unmatched underwater experience. Guided dives maintain a maximum 6:1 ratio, ensuring divers have the time and space to observe and capture marine life behaviours.
For those opting for shore diving, minibus excursions explore numerous local bays and reefs. Shore dive packages encompass two guided dives daily, inclusive of transportation, along with a solitary unguided house reef dive, complete with tanks, nitrox, weights, and a weight belt.
Daily boat excursions on Emperor’s dedicated vessels depart from Port Ghalib and Marsa Alam, both reachable within a 30-minute drive. Speedboat trips to the renowned Elphinstone Reef are also available, and arrangements can be made for additional excursions to Dolphin House, Samadai, and the Hamada Wreck, albeit with supplemental charges.
The exceptional house reef, accessible via the pier, spans 700m of pristine fringing reef, offering three distinctive dives. House Reef packages include a guide, tanks, nitrox, weights, and a weight belt. Night dives are an option, albeit incurring an additional charge. In the evenings, guests can partake in informative sessions, covering general, seasonal, and dive-site specific ecological, biological, and environmental topics, enhancing the overall diving experience.
