- Discover Scuba Diving (PADI) – a “try dive” in a pool or confined water
- Try Scuba (SSI) – Conducted in confined water to a maximum 5m
- Basic Diver (SSI) – This introductory course teaches you the fundamentals of scuba diving, including equipment use and safety procedures, allowing you to dive up to 12 meters under direct supervision.
- Open Water Diver (SSI/PADI) – the world’s most popular beginner certification. Usually 4-5 days including theory, pool/confined water, and open water dives. Dive up to 18m with a buddy worldwide.
💡 Jeremy’s tip: “Start your theory online before you travel – that way you spend more time in the water, less time in the classroom.”
- Advanced Open Water Diver (PADI) – 5 adventure dives including Deep and Navigation, plus optional specialties. Dive up to 30m.
- Advanced Adventurer (SSI) – a 2-day course with your choice of 5 specialty dives (e.g., Night, Wreck, Buoyancy).
- Rescue Diver – learn stress recognition, self-rescue, and emergency management.
💡 Filomena’s tip: “Choose your specialties based on the destination – night dives in the Maldives feel very different to wreck dives in Malta!”
There are many specialty courses to choose from but the most popular are:
- Deep Diver. Plan and execute dives down to 40m.
- Enriched Air Nitrox – extend bottom time with up to 40% oxygen blends (theory only, no dives required).
- Navigation. Become a better and more confident diver who always knows where you are going
- Buoyancy. The PPB (PADI or Perfect Buoyancy (SSI) specialty will teach you advanced buoyancy skills and techniques, so you can master your buoyancy more quickly and enjoy more relaxed dive adventures
- Night. Night (PADI) or Night Diving and Limited Visibility (SSI) this specialty is the best way to learn about night diving and practice the techniques you will need to become a safe and confident night diver.
💡 Jeremy’s Top Tip: “Nitrox is the most useful add-on for dive holidays with multiple dives a day — less fatigue, more time underwater.”
- Divemaster (SSI/PADI) – supervise dives, assist with training, and guide groups.
- Instructor Development Courses (IDCs) – the pathway to becoming a dive instructor.
💡 Filomena’s Top Tip: “Even if you don’t plan to “go pro,” Rescue Diver and Divemaster training are brilliant for building confidence and dive skills.”

“The trip was organised by Jeremy at Sea to Sky. His attention to detail through the booking process, right through to his first hand knowledge of the dive sites was superb. It led to the holiday being truly relaxed, and wanting a teenager to come back with her friends for a diving course.”
“I had already 2 trips with Sea to Sky and I can warmly recommend this company! Friendly people best organisation and professional diving trips. With Sea to Sky you are in very good hands and your holidays are worth booking.”
“I’d been looking for a trip that blended site seeing, diving, great locale and authentic restaurants and can not recommend this company enough. Travelling as a single person in a new country can daunting, but Sea to Sky made my travels easier than I could have expected”
