Truk Lagoon (or Chuuk Lagoon to give it its correct name) is best known for its world-class wreck diving and variety of wrecks ranging from supply vessels (Maru) to planes and a submarine, all tightly packed into a coral reef lagoon. Whilst the wrecks themselves are encrusted with a variety of corals, you can still clearly see telegraphs, steering columns and mounted guns and many offer the opportunity to explore engine rooms and holds.
Historical artefacts such as medicine bottles, gas masks and other personal effects can still be found at many of the sites along with machinery of war including engines, aircraft wings, tanks, guns and ammunition.
Chuuk is on many scuba divers’ ‘bucket list’
During WWII, the Japanese fleet used Truk Lagoon as one of their main staging points for attacks on the allied forces. In 1944 the American-led Operation Hailstone surprised the fleet resulting in the plethora of dive sites which we can see there today. With over 60 wrecks to explore and an abundance of marine life, it’s easy to appreciate why Chuuk is on many scuba divers’ ‘bucket list’ and wreck enthusiasts travel to the area time and time again.
Unlike the wrecks of Bikini Atoll, the majority of the wrecks in Truk Lagoon are relatively shallow, and suitable for recreational and technical scuba divers alike.

The Pacific Master
This custom-designed liveaboard was built with divers in mind to bring you the very best diving holiday experience possible. Previously, sailing the stunning dive sites of the Solomon Islands as M/V Taka, this steel-hulled vessel boasts an experienced boat crew, dive team and chefs to ensure the highest standards of service.
Pacific Master features 12 cabins allowing comfortable accommodation for up to 20 guests. These are categorised into one en-suite premium double cabin, five en-suite premium double/twin cabins, four standard single cabins and two standard twin cabins with shared bathroom facilities.
An incredibly spacious lounge and dining area is located on the main deck of the boat providing plenty of air-conditioned space to unwind and enjoy the on-board cuisine. An expansive dive deck leads perfectly to the dive platform, and boasts a dedicated camera area for our photographer guests. Individual dive stations provide plenty of space and storage for your dive kit. This area also provides individual toilets, freshwater showers and rinse tanks for your equipment.
If you prefer to relax in the sunshine and fresh air, the large sun deck comes complete with comfortable loungers to lie back and enjoy the views.
Truk Lagoon – 7 Nights, 9 Nights, and 10 Nights Itinerary
Our Truk Lagoon liveaboard diving itinerary allows you not only to explore the wrecks of the WWII Japanese Imperial Navy fleet, but also to experience some superb reef diving. Numerous channels cut through the reef serving as hunting grounds for reef sharks and schooling pelagics which all add to the wonder of diving Truk Lagoon.
While many of the wrecks lie within recreational diving depth limits, we also offers Tec diving facilities for those wishing to delve deeper and take a closer look at history.
On a typical day we offer up to 4 day dives, making a total of up to 34 dives possible. When the boat is anchored within the lagoon, the 4th day dive may be substituted for a night dive.

NOTE: Due to the depth of the San Francisco Maru, diving on this wreck will only be offered to those divers possessing the necessary training and experience to plan and safely execute technical dives.

Certification Level
Recreational Divers: PADI Advanced Open Water, or equivalent, with a minimum of 50 logged dives. Deep Diver Speciality (40 metres) certification is also recommended.
Technical and Rebreather Divers are required to have the relevant certification and experience for the depths and type of diving which they are intending to do.
Guests who do not fulfil the minimum certification and experience requirements may be denied participation in some or all dives. We are unable to offer any diving certification courses in Truk Lagoon.
In addition to exploring some of the many famous wrecks within the lagoon, we also offer guests the opportunity to experience some superb reef diving. There are numerous channels that cut through the atoll and reefs which serve as hunting grounds for a variety of sharks and schooling pelagics which all add to the wonder of diving Truk Lagoon.
The majority of shipwrecks within Truk Lagoon are deemed suitable for recreational divers and offer varying depths for multi-level profiles. However, some lie beyond, or have interesting features deeper than the recognised, no decompression, recreational diving depth limit of 30 metres (100ft). As such, certain areas are only suitable for divers with deep diver training (40 metres) or technical diving qualifications.
The boat provides equipment and facilities for deep, technical and rebreather diving with a ‘Deco-bar’ situated under the main vessel’s dive platform for your convenience. All divers who wish to go beyond recognised recreational depth limits, or who plan to make deep wreck penetration or decompression dives must show proof of qualification and experience upon boarding and will be requested to sign an additional Technical Diving liability waiver.
Guests are responsible for their own dive profiles and for obtaining suitable dive insurance to cover deeper diving. We respectfully request our divers stay within the bounds of their training, follow dive computer guidelines and make decompression stops where necessary. When planning deep dives or dives with extended bottom times, please bear in mind that recompression facilities in the region are limited, therefore we recommend you dive conservatively.
It is mandatory for all divers to have appropriate insurance which covers the type of diving and depths that they will be participating in and includes emergency air evacuation and recompression chamber treatment costs.
Transfers, Notes and Dives
Transfers
- Embarkation: between 15:00 and 17:00*
- Disembarkation: Weno at 07:00**
- Transfers from and to Chuuk Airport or Weno hotels for embarkation and disembarkation are included in the cruise price.
*Guests arriving in the morning on embarkation day will be transferred to a local resort where they can relax and enjoy a light lunch or visit the local museum prior to embarkation.
Guests who are staying in Chuuk before their liveaboard itinerary will be picked up from their hotel between 15:00 and 17:00. Our local operations team will contact guests at their hotel to confirm the transfer arrangements and pick-up time.
